So many things are happening at the same time. The to-do list is never over. And mornings are about catching up with the previous day’s list. Starting your own thing is not cakewalk. Well, we never thought it will be. Will we swap our entrepreneur life for that of our employee life? Nope.
Over this small period we have met some amazing people. And some not so amazing ones. The day we had gone to register our company, we met our lawyer and CS outside the Bandra Court. Trupti her name is. We got our company name registered, our partnership registered, all that paperwork. You know, for us since we had been Creatives in Advertising, paperwork has been something we have successfully avoided, unless it is tax-filing time. So we were trying our best to concentrate, understand it all. After all the work was done, when we were leaving we noticed the tshirt Trupti was wearing. It was a Batman tshirt. Instinctively one of us said, “Hey, your tshirt! Trupti replied, with a huge smile on her face, “thank god you guys noticed. Wore it especially for Bat Travels.” Trupti is now our friend for life. Though we bug her a lot. So can’t say if we are her friend for life too.
Entrepreneurship has also allowed us to make some life changes. We are cooking our own food mostly, to save money that is. But eating healthier in the process, if you discount that occasional Maggi. We are also going for long walks in the evening, to take a break from sending 1000 mails a day, talking to another 1000 people over calls. What we are avoiding is calls from our parents. Somehow the pressure to prove ourselves to our parents has arisen again. And with unseen vigour this time. Will be meeting them in 10 days, dreading it.
So we were super excited to handover our cards in Braille to Sushma Ma’am and Vinod Sir, our mentors at the India SME Forum (India Small Medium Enterprise Forum). It was heartwarming to see them feeling so possessive about us. When other employees of the Forum walked into the meeting room to talk to us about something else, Vinod Sir held onto the two cards in Braille, making sure to collect it back from them after they had done seeing. It was cute of him to sit with both his arms outstretched, barricading the two cards kept on the table. Later when Sushma Ma’am walked in, he excitedly and gingerly handed it over to her, as if the cards were his babies. And the delight on Sushma Ma’am’s face to see the card.
While we were sitting and talking with them I get a call from our first customer, woohoo! Ravi wants to go paragliding with us. And we want to go with him too. While we were packing our laptop to leave, Sushma Ma’am walks in with our Braille cards, but she got us blessings from the Gods. A tilak on our cards, a keepsake for us for life. People like Moms do this stuff. Or I guess, you need Mentors like parents.
Starting your own thing is the best thing we did. And when we had an idea like this. Every morning we wake up excited about the to-do list. That never happened before. When you are on your own, you are saner, happier, better. Everyday we meet many new people. Most of them don’t get the beauty of our idea. But the ones that do, they keep on adding to it. And at that moment it becomes everyone’s idea.
In the last 27 days we have planned two exciting itineraries, got some vendors onboard, our visiting cards in Braille is our hands, our website is almost done, our Facebook and Twitter handles have got some followers (12 on the former and 8 on latter), our Instagram page is roaring (103 followers). We are still waiting for our PAN cards. And some bank work is left. Ohh, and our friends sent in their photos to be used on the website. Getting a photo from Pandey was a real pain. Ultimately we had to use the pixelated one, because she didn’t give us any better.
Since neither I nor my partner were Social Media savvy, every new follower and every like is a super achievement. How do you guys get a 1000 likes in 10 minutes!
We also went to Goa and Kamshet in the last few days to reccee and figure out what all we can do with our friends. Astrid was so open to our friends’ visit. And she had a lot to add to the activities we will partake. Really excited for this trip, it will be our first.
This blogpost is more of a rambling. More coming soon.
